Board of Directors
Kate Van Heule
As a champion of animal welfare for many years, I have dedicated my life to reducing animal suffering through education, fostering, volunteering and financially supporting animal welfare causes. There is still much to be done and through the Blue Sky Foundation, I hope to affect positive change for living creatures on a larger scale.
I am a long time resident of Alliance, NE and I have had a 25 year long successful career at BNSF Railway as a locomotive engineer. Before that I worked in construction and in the veterinary field as an assistant. As one of the original founders of our dog park in Alliance, I have helped raise $40,000 to build and maintain the park over the past 8 years. It is a beautiful 3.5 acre park. I have a solid reputation with our city for living up to my commitments. My passion is animal rescue and welfare. I do domestic animal rescue as well as some wildlife rescue. I am a Raptor Rescue Relay member with Rontenelle Forest in Elmwood, Nebraska. I am also launching a long term TNR project in the city of Alliance starting in the fall of 2015. I am dedicated to helping unfortunate, homeless and injured animals.
I am a co-founder and operator of a non-profit, Skipper’s Cupboard in Gering, Nebraska. My husband and I started the cupboard in 2009 and since then have delivered free pet food to numerous families and their pets all over Western Nebraska. Our organization has delivered over 70,000 lbs of pet food in the last 6 years, in our effort to keep the “family unit” together. We offer free pet food to people who struggle to provide food to their animal companions on a regular basis. We hope by doing this service less people will have to give their pets up to shelters. Recently, we started our “Give Me Shelter Project.” We asked the community to share with us any excess building materials they may have and also received a donation of building materials from our local Home Depot. We then held a workshop where we invited volunteers to come to Home Depot and help us build dog houses of various sizes. We are now donating those dog houses to pets who must live outside, but have no shelter from the weather. I have always been an animal lover and I am inspired by what we do with Skipper’s Cupboard. I have wanted to be more involved with animal welfare and I am excited to share my vision and experience to make a difference for more animals.
I am a long time resident of Twin Falls, ID. My career as an accountant and financial adviser has spanned more than 30 years. I am experienced in many areas of business and finance. I am an accomplished equestrian and my love for horses goes back to my childhood. I have always been involved in animal welfare, and have fostered and rehabilitated several rescued horses.
